Our Story...

The History of Greater Praise Christian Academy

Greater Praise Christian Academy was established in August 2003 by MSC retired educator, missionary, and pastor’s wife- Sallie B. Johnson Frye, and her youngest daughter, Pamela Kay Johnson. The academy's humble beginnings took place in the Sunday school office of Greater Praise Tabernacle COGIC, where it started with just five students. This small group marked the inception of an educational journey that would blossom into a beacon of hope and opportunity for the Memphis community.

Driven by a passion for education and a deep commitment to serving the community, Sallie B. Johnson Frye and Pamela Kay Johnson envisioned a school that provided a quality education rooted in Christian values. Their vision was to create a nurturing and supportive environment where students could grow academically, spiritually, and personally, guided by the principles of faith and integrity.

In May 2007, Greater Praise Christian Academy celebrated its first senior graduation, a milestone that symbolized the fulfillment of the founders' dreams and the beginning of a legacy of academic excellence and spiritual growth. The graduates of 2007 were the pioneers who set the standard for future generations, embodying the values instilled in them during their time at the academy.

In 2010, upon the passing of Sallie B. Johnson Frye, her daughter Pamela Kay Johnson assumed the leadership role, continuing her mother’s legacy with unwavering dedication. Under her guidance, the academy has thrived and expanded significantly, building upon the strong foundation laid by her mother.

Today, Greater Praise Christian Academy operates two campuses that cater to students from diverse backgrounds. The elementary campus is located in Frayser, while the middle and high school campus is situated in Raleigh. Both campuses are dedicated to providing an enriching educational experience that empowers students to excel academically and make a positive impact in their communities.

The academy's governing scripture, Proverbs 22:6, serves as a guiding principle: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." This scripture reflects the academy's commitment to nurturing each student's potential and character, ensuring they are equipped to face life's challenges with resilience and faith.

Looking to the future, Greater Praise Christian Academy remains steadfast in its mission to educate students in underserved communities. The academy envisions a future where every child, regardless of their background, has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for success in life. By continuing to innovate and adapt to the ever-changing educational landscape, Greater Praise Christian Academy is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless students, empowering them to become leaders, thinkers, and compassionate citizens of the world.

Through unwavering dedication and faith, Greater Praise Christian Academy will continue to be a pillar of hope and opportunity, lighting the path for future generations and fulfilling the dreams of its founders
